　　At lunchtime, Dad spoke to Ben.

　　"I'm sorry," he said. "but I don't think we're going to find him today.

　　I expect he'll be back in a few days.

　　Someboday is sure to find him."

　　Ben didn't say anything.

　　Laura couldn't make Ben feel better, either.

　　It was time to go to Auntie Val's and Uncle Keith's Dad carried Ben to the car and Laura brought Scat.

　　Scat kept looking around.

　　He seemed to be missing his brother.

　　"I don't want to go," said Ben. "I want to stay at home and wait for Lucky. Perhaps he'll show up later."

　　"We can't do that," said Dad. "Auntie Val and Uncle Keith are looking forword to seeing us. Thank how upset they would be if we didn't go."

　　"Think how upset Lucky will be if he comes home and we're not there," said Ben.

　　Laura was quiet.

　　Before they left, Dad asked the next door neighbours to look out for Lucky.

　　As they drove off, Ben kept looking back to see if he could catch sight of Lucky.

　　However, he was out of luck today.

　　When they got to Auntie Val's and Uncle Keith's, Ben was still upset.

　　Auntie Val made a great fuss of Scat.

　　It only made Ben feel worse.

　　"This isn't right," said Ben.

　　"There should be two Kittens, not one. Scat is missing Lucky as much as I am."

　　Scat sat still on Ben's lap.

　　He wasn't in the mood to explore the new environment.

　　Uncle Keith tried to comfort Ben.

　　"When I was a boy," he said. "I had a dog named Candy. She ran away one day and I thought she was gone forever. I couldn't stop crying."

　　Uncle Keith's story only made Ben more upset.

　　He couldn't hold back his tears any more.

　　"Don't cry Ben," said Uncle Keith. "My story has a happy ending. After a week, Candy came home."

　　"But Lucky is only a kitten. He's very young," sobbed Ben. "He's never been out of the house. And if he does come home, we won't be there to let him in."

　　Just the thought of it made Ben cry even more.

　　Everybody tried to cheer Ben up. Auntie Val cooked him his favourite dishes but he didn't feel like eating. He took only a few small bites.

　　Uncle Keith suggested that they all go to the cinema bue Ben didn't want to go.

　　"This is no good Ben," said Dad."Being unhappy won't bring Lucky back.

　　Let's all go for a walk in the park.

　　That will make you feel better."

　　Laura offered to get his wheelchair from the car.

　　Laura went to the car.

　　As she opened the back of the car, she gave a terrific shout.

　　They all heard Laura's shout from inside the house.

　　Dad picked up Ben and they all ran outside.

　　"What's the matter?" asked Auntie Val.

　　"It's Lucky!" langhed Laura.

　　"He was in the back of the car!"

　　"What!" said Dad. "He must have jumped in when I was putting in Ben's wheelchair last night."

　　"He's been in there for hours," said Laura.

　　"He must be Scared."

　　"He must be starving!" said Uncle Keith.

　　"Oh, Lucky," said Ben. "I'm so glad you're back. I thought you'd be gone forever."

　　"I knew we'd find him," said Dad.

　　"It's lucky I looked in the back of car," said Laura.

　　"It's lucky for Lucky!" said Ben.
